Adam’s restaurant in Birmingham voted second best in the UK – and 11th best in the world

Adam’s restaurant in Birmingham has been named the second best in the UK and 11th best in the world.

The rating comes from customer review website TripAdvisor – in its annual TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice awards for Restaurants.

The Michelin starred eatery made number seven in last year’s UK top ten.

Winners were determined using an algorithm which took into account the quantity and quality of reviews around the world over a 12-month period.

Adam’s, run by Adam Stokes and wife Natasha, was beaten to the UK top spot by Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham. Sat Bains was also named fourth best restaurant in the world.

Adam’s was also named sixth best restaurant in TripAdvisor’s European top ten.

Nicola Hewitt, commercial director at regional tourism body the West Midlands Growth Company, said: “Adam’s is a true reflection of the culinary scene in the West Midlands – world-class food and customer experiences – so it comes as no surprise that the restaurant has received the accolade.”

The number one restaurant in the world according to TripAdvisor is Au Crocodile in France. Located in the city of Strasbourg, the restaurant holds a Michelin star under its head chef, Franck Pelux.

Dishes on the menu include roasted fillet of venison, beets and pepper sauce, pike perch poached, potato mousse and sauerkraut extraction and sea bream in a bread crust, candied celeriac and smoked beurre blanc.

Reacting to the award, Adam Stokes said: “We are absolutely delighted. Featuring sixth in Europe and 11th in the world shows how TripAdvisor brings diners and restaurants together from across the globe.

“When my wife and I opened up nearly six years ago we had no idea how we would be received by Birmingham and the wider culinary audience, all I can say is it’s been amazing.”

On TripAdvisor Adam’s is ranked number one restaurant in Birrmingham and has a whopping 2,146 five star ‘excellent’ ratings out of 2,378 reviews.

Hayley Coleman, TripAdvisor spokeswoman, said:“Rather than judging panel, these awards are determined by the millions of reviews posted over 12 months from diners who have visited the restaurants.

“To be named not just second best in the UK but sixth in Europe and eleventh in the world, demonstrates the incredible work that the team at Adam’s are putting in to deliver the best experience to its customers.”

In November the chef revealed to BirminghamLive he was opening a second restaurant on Temple Street. The Oyster Club, an oyster bar and seafood restaurant will open in February 2019.

For the first time, TripAdvisor has added an ‘Everyday Dining’ awards list.

These are restaurants that provide great meals but without breaking the bank.

Edinburgh’s Makars Gourmet Mash Bar (Mound) was named top every dining restaurant. Lambs Restaurant in Stratford-upon-Avon was named sixth best in the every dining category.
